Manipur triumph

Imphal, Sept. 14: Manipur outplayed Arunachal Pradesh by 5-1 goals to emerge winners of the 64th Senior National Hockey Championship (men’s) for the North East Zone 2012 at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium today.

The win propels Manipur from the Northeast zone into the final round of the championship which will be held in November in New Delhi.

In the 17th minute, Manipur’s P. Adeva Singh scored the opening goal after collecting a strong hit from Tarun Singh for the lead.

Adeva consolidated with three more goals in the 21st and 26th minutes and P. Priyokumar Singh hammering his team’s fourth goal in the 29 minute.

However, Arunachal Pradesh’s relentless efforts paid off in the 62nd minute with S. Happy striking home his team’s lone goal.

However, P. Priyokumar Singh hit home the winning goal in the 67th minute for the victory today.

Manipur beat Tripura by 6-2 goals while Arunachal Pradesh beat Tripura by 3-0 goals to emerge on top of the league for the final clash today.
