Rashmi Ranjan Singh (Dayanand Public School) and Nishi Jaiswal of JH Tarapore School scorched the JRD Tata Sports Complex tracks on Friday to emerge as winners in the 100m senior boys’ and girls’ categories of the 16th ASISC Zonal Athletics Meet 2012.
The meet, inaugurated by Tata Steel sports department head Captain Amitabh earlier in the day, will see more than 600 students from 25 city schools competing in it during the course of its two days. The event is being organised by Carmel Junior College.
While Rashmi Ranjan, clocked 11.8 seconds to edge out Motilal Nehru Public School’s Abhishek Sinha (12.0 seconds, silver) and Hill Top School’s Saurabh Suman (12.1 seconds, bronze), Nishi notched up 14.1 seconds to finish before Adreeja Chatterjee of Sacred Heart Convent (14.3 seconds) and Priyanka Kumari of Church School Beldih (15.3 seconds).
Later in the day, Vig English School’s Prasun Das bagged the gold medal in the junior boys’ 100m sprint by clocking 12.2 secs and beating Hill Top’s Ritesh Kumar (12.3 secs) and Ratu Ranjan of Loyola School (12.4 secs).
Aayushi Priya excelled in the junior girls’ category of the same event by busting the challenge of Asha A. Toppo (14.8 seconds) of Sacred Heart Convent School and Sayeri Dutta (15.2 seconds) of JH Tarapore School.
Anuj Kumar (Dayanand Public School) and S. Darshana (DBMS English School) bagged gold in the senior boys’ and girls’ categories in 400m dash.
While Anuj (56.7 seconds) beat Church School Beldih’ Avinash Gadhwal (57.8 seconds) and Little Flower’s Edwin Julius (59 seconds), Darshana (1:13.5 seconds) outran JH Tarapore’s Nishi Jaiswal (1.51.1 secs) and DBMS English School’s Harpeet Kaur (1:24.0 secs).
Anuj (4:47:2) notched the senior boys’ 1500m title, beating Vig School’s Suresh Murmu (4:48:5) and Loyola’s Julian Anthony (4:51:9).
Leo A. Ambadan of Carmel Junior College won the junior’s title with 4:50:7, tripping ADLS Sunshine School’s Md Taj (4.54:6 secs) and Gurmukh Singh of DAV (Patelnagar), 5:58:6.
Priya Sinha (1:12:3) of Church School won the junior girls’ 1500m title. Sacred Heart School’s Celina Ray (1:15:7) and Loyola School’s R. Krithi (1.18.8 secs) were runners’ up.
