The Voice (Season 3) is back on AXN from today. And so is celebrity judge Christina Aguilera. t2 caught up with the sultry singer for an email chat.

With the third season of The Voice coming up, what do you enjoy best about being a judge/coach?

I really enjoy working with young talent and helping them discover things they never even knew about themselves. Helping give them the confidence to believe in their talent. It is so joyful for me.

What is the one thing that a stage gives a singer that is missing from a TV show?

We shoot with an audience, so that is helpful as the most wonderful thing about being on stage is that instant feedback. The audience actually makes you better when they are into it.

Personally, is it stage or TV for you?

I will always be an artiste first and a TV personality second. Being an artiste allows me the energy to be on TV.

You are a woman of many parts. You sing, write songs, have acted and also produced records. Which is closest to your heart?

Being an artiste and making music is my first love. It is who I am deep in my soul.

Who were the singers you grew up listening to?

Etta James, Billie Holiday — jazz and blues artistes.

Was there a moment when you decided this is it... singing as a career?

I knew from the time I was three that music made me feel good, it moved me and I loved to perform. I think it was when I was six and started really performing for audiences that it hit me that this was what I was going to do forever.

How would you describe your musical journey so far?

Not always easy but ALWAYS worth it!

Criticism about your weight and looks has been a part of your career. How do you handle it?

I love my curves and I am proud of who I am as a woman. I have a healthy son (Max Liron Bratman), and I am working hard and I have no time for people who want to tell me I should be a certain size or look a certain way. We are women and we should love ourselves and not beat ourselves up because we don’t fit a mould or image.

The purple in your hair has generated a buzz. How much do you love experimenting?

As my fans know, I never shy away from trying new things. Blonde, brown, black, purple — my hair will always change and I love that as an artiste I can do that.

You have a range of fragrances. Any new additions to the collection?

Yes, I am working on a new fragrance called Red Sin — it is all about the colour of red and how it evokes something sensual and magical. It will be released later this year. But my signature fragrance as well as Royal Desire, By Night and Secret Potion should also be available to you (in India). There are parts of me in all of them.

When is your new album Your Body coming out?

The new album is almost done and I am so excited to share it with fans. My new single, Your Body, will premiere on The Voice this season. A lot of the album is light and fun. Great dance and pop tracks. Others are really raw and intimate. I am so excited for the album.

Do we see you coming to India anytime soon?

I hope when I am done with the show I can travel a bit more.
