Grains seized

Durgapur, Sept. 13: Police seized 55 quintals of wheat grain and five quintals of rice pilfered from several ration shops in Durgapur this morning while they were being transported to a private flour mill in Jamuria near Asansol.

The truck driver and the kingpin of the racket have been arrested

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a mini truck at Prantika in town and recovered 60 bags of the food grains. “We detained the driver Ranjan Chauhan and came to know while interrogating him that Vimal Agarwal of Benachity in town was behind the racket. He smuggles food grains from ration shops and Food corporation of India godowns in collusion with dealers and officials,” said Sunil Yadav, the additional deputy commissioner of police (east).

Vimal was arrested from his residence. The police said he had confessed to smuggling the rations to the flour mill.

Yadav said the police would arrest the ration shop owners and conduct raids on the private flour mill in Jamuria.
