Shillong, Sept. 13: A personal security officer of Congress legislator Martin M. Danggo was found dead here this morning.
Chising S. Marak, the personal security officer belonging to East Khasi Hills district police, was found hanging in the compound of the official residence of the Langrin legislator near Hotel Pinewood.
According to an unverified “suicide note”, Marak supposedly sought pardon from Danggo for taking the drastic step.
Marak, 30, was a bachelor and belonged to the 2006 batch. He was a resident of Bolsalgre in South Garo Hills, and has been attached to Danggo for the past two years.
According to East Khasi Hills superintendent of police M. Kharkrang, police received information about the incident around 8.45am.
After the necessary formalities were completed, Marak’s body was sent for post-mortem. The report is still awaited.
“The relatives requested us to exempt the body from the post-mortem. However, we did not grant the same and the post-mortem was conducted to ensure that there was no foul play involved in the incident,” Kharkrang said.
He also said samples have also been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination to ensure that the investigation comes to a logical conclusion.
Kharkrang said the “suicide note” was recovered fromnear Marak’s body. “Through the note, pardon was sought from Danggo and it also stated that he (Marak) was taking the step (suicide) because of personal reasons. But we will have to verify the note,” the police official said.
When contacted, Danggo said he had been in Bangalore from September 8 and arrived here today.
“I have heard about the death, but do not know about the suicide note and I have not seen it,” Danggo said.
The former Meghalaya Assembly Speaker also said although the official residence has been allotted to him, he has been residing at his own house in Rynjah locality.
