Warriors defeat riflemen

Nagaon, Sept. 13: Warriors of Waimijing entered the pre-quarterfinal of the 8th Chief Executive Member Club football tournament, defeating 25 Assam Rifles 6-4 through tie-breaker in a second round match organised by the Dima Hasao District Sports Association at N.L. Daulogupu sports complex in Haflong today.

The match was a 2-2 draw till the end of the scheduled time.

In the 25th minute, 25 Assam Rifles midfielder H. Haokip made best use of the pass received from Marboh and scored the first goal of the match.

Rival Waimijing midfielder Johori equalised it in the 49th minute.

Striker Vealas scored the second goal for 25 Assam Rifles through a free kick in the 70th minute.

Rival Waimijing right-winger Panit Bathari equalised in the 78th minute.

In the tiebreaker, W.N. Singh and Hnema scored for Assam Rifles.

Four Waimijing players — Lalhliampuia, Isaa, Ziaremthang and Laluzhakliana — scored to win the match.

Heaven Blue Athletic Club defeated Denizen Club 1-0 in another match yesterday.
