The Kudankulam protests spilled over to the sea on Thursday as thousands took a leaf out of the book of anti-dam activists in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa and staged a sea satyagraha.
But if the demonstrators in Tamil Nadu took to the waters, like the anti-dam protesters in Khandwa last week, the authorities scaled new heights of vigil.
A coastguard Dornier surveillance plane flew over the 4,000-odd protesters, many of them women and children, as they stood in the waters for almost six hours.
But missing in action were key leaders of the movement who face arrest for Monday’s violence. Cops watched the ripples of protest from a distance, careful not to let people surge towards the plant, a kilometre away.
