Youth robbed, beaten up by gang

An employee of a local transport company was assaulted by six bike-borne men and robbed of Rs 8,500 at Tube Baridih in Sidhgora police station area of the city on Thursday, two days after a colleague of his was attacked at the same place in a similar fashion.

Bharat Bhushan, 21, a resident of Baridih, was returning home after receiving his salary at Kabra Transport Company’s office in Sakchi, 7km from where he was assaulted.

He was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital after he lost consciousness. Doctors said Bharat had sustained a grievous head injury, suggesting that the attackers had hit him with a blunt object, besides wounds in the chest and lower abdomen.

The victim’s relatives said he was attacked at the same spot and around the same time (11am) as his colleague, Vikram Kumar, was on Tuesday.

Vikram, 26, was also returning home with his salary, when six bike-borne criminals in two bikes stopped him and snatched Rs 6,500 from him after beating him up.

Though Vikram escaped with minor injuries, he was also admitted to MGM hospital for treatment. He was released on Thursday.

His family had informed Sidhgora police about the incident and expected action against the guilty, Vikram added.

Sub-inspector of Sidhgora police Ganesh Kumar Singh said, “I am yet to get a written complaint about the two incidents, but we promise to act.”

A section of Baridih residents protested in front of the police station in the evening.
