Teacher awarded
Jorhat, Sept. 12: Snehasish Pathak, a physics teacher of Narottam Nagar Ram Krishna Mission School at Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh, was given the President’s award for outstanding contribution to teaching at the school level in New Delhi recently.
Liquor seized
Jorhat: Excise and police department personnel on Wednesday recovered 12 drums of illicit liquor, one carton of foreign liquor, three cartons of beer from Rangajan in Titabar and from near Jorhat railway station. Eight persons were arrested in the raids.
Rescued
Jorhat: Two turtles were rescued by an NGO from Panichakua on Wednesday and were released by forest department officials at Rajmao Barpukhuri.

Dibrugarh: Jagannath Das, 24, of Serepakhati was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning.
Rapists held
Dibrugarh: Two persons, Horukon Baruah and Manoj Mahatao, were arrested on Wednesday from Maijan on charges of raping a 12-year-old girl.

Guwahati: Union minister of state in the PMO V. Narayansami on Wednesday refuted allegations of violation of guidelines in extraction of coal from Namchik-Namphuk coal block in Arunachal Pradesh and claimed that the reports are based on misinformation.
Airport
Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh government on Wednesday said it has no role in shifting the airport from Karsingsa to Hollongi. It was the Airport Authority of India who had recommended Hollongi as the new site.

Imphal: Police recovered an unexploded grenade inside a polythene bag from the garage of Manipur secretariat south block on Wednesday. The bag was first spotted by an employee and no one was arrested

Silchar: Cachar district BJP Mahila Morcha president Sushmita Purakayastha on Wednesday expressed distress over the “inaction” of the authorities to initiate measures leading to punishment of two persons who kidnapped a married woman from Tarapur on April 28.
Bail granted
Guwahati: Gauhati High Court on Wednesday granted bail to BPF MLA Pradip Kumar Brahma in six cases registered against him for his alleged role in the riots in Kokrajhar district.
