Kejriwal shooter held

- Capital cops also net five bike thieves

The man who pulled the trigger on businessman Sushil Kejriwal on the evening of September 2 at Tatisilwai has been arrested.

Shooter Roshan Munda was picked up from his home at Tirka village in Angara police station area of Ranchi on Monday morning.

Senior superintendent of police Saket Kumar Singh announced the breakthrough at a press conference in his office on Monday evening.

“Munda admitted that he shot Kejriwal. He told us that the gang involved in the murder was a six-member one led by one Tulsi Pahan. He said his intention was not to kill Kejriwal, but to kidnap him for ransom. However, he shot the businessman out of nervousness when he noticed someone who looked like a security personnel nearby,” Singh said.

With Munda’s arrest, the number of people held for the murder now stands at two. On September 8, one Ashok Ram, a resident of Giddi in Hazaribagh district, was arrested in this connection.

Kejriwal was shot dead outside his plastic factory as he stepped out to return home.

In another breakthrough, police arrested five of a seven-member gang involved in theft of four-wheelers and two-wheelers from Dhobi Tola in Silli police station area. Those arrested were identified as Manpuran Rajak, Suresh Kumar, Anil Mahto, Bipan Mahto and Nirmal Mahto. With this, a case involving the theft of a four-wheeler at Silli police station area was solved and more than 100 cases of motorcycle thefts were also likely to be solved, Singh said in the press conference.

In yet another development, police arrested one Manoj Bhagat for threatening one Bhuranga Oraon, a resident of Purio in Bero police station area. Singh said Oraon, impersonating as a member of the notorious Vimal Oraon gang, demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from Oraon and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay.
