Ranty on a roll

Calcutta: Ranty Martins’ sizzling form continued as he scored a brace on Sunday to help Prayag United SC beat Tower George Telegraph SC 3-2 in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division match, at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Carlos Hernandez netted the other goal for United SC, while Shiladitya Seth and Okorogor were the scorers for George. United SC could have won by a bigger margin had a Ranty header in the 66th minute and a Vineeth CK shot not hit the upright.

United SC dominated the proceedings from the outset. Although Ranty scored two goals, Carlos Hernandez, who played as a holding midfielder, impressed with his precise passing. It was George who took the lead in the 35th minute through Shiladitya’s shot.

The ball kissed United SC goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee’s hands before finding the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Ranty scored the equaliser. He tricked two opponent defenders with his dribbling skills before shooting the ball past Chirodeep Chattopadhyay.
