Navajyoti tame Dynamo Club

Guwahati, Sept. 9: Navajyoti Club today inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Dynamo Club in a championship group match, thus, paving the way for NF Railway to be the champions in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here.

Rocky Philem put Navajyoti ahead in the 23rd minute when he made no mistake in ruffling the net off an Ifeanyi Nkenchor shot that rebounded from the woodwork. With the goal, Navajyoti Club led 1-0 at lemon break.

Into the second session, the Dynamo men started aggressively and created a few openings but failed to score.

As the Dynamo men went all out, Philem struck again with a counter-attack by Nkenchor who passed the ball to the former from the left flank to be lobbed overhead the Dynamo custodian Mantu Mallick in the 73rd minute.

Chetia struck just two minutes later, pushing in a pass from Philem to make it 3-0.

With Dynamo trailing 3-0, supporters started pelting missiles at the Navajyoti substitutes bench causing a brief interruption in the match before organisers and security personnel intervened.

Few minutes after the troubles outside the turf, Mallick and Navajyoti’s African recruit Nkenchor got involved in a scuffle inside the penalty area inviting yellow card cautions for both. Yesterday, last year’s runners-up Assam Police Blues, facing a relegation scare, failed to consolidate their position settling for a goalless draw with Gauhati Town Club to be still languishing at the bottom of the tally with seven points. GTC are a point ahead of the policemen.

Tomorrow, Sunrise AC will meet NF Railway SC in a championship group match.

Bhaker striking home the opening goal in the 31st minute and later consolidated with another field goal in the 45th minute. S. Happy fetched the winning goal for Arunachal Pradesh in the 67th minute for the victory today.
