Irani tie shifted

Jaipur: The Irani Trophy match, scheduled to be held here from September 21 to 25, has been shifted to another venue after the BCCI pitch and grounds committee chairman Venkat Sundaram found the Sawai Man Singh Stadium pitch unsuitable.

Sundaram inspected the pitch Saturday and later announced that the match would be shifted to another venue, which will be decided by the BCCI.

“It was saddening to note that Sawai Man Singh stadium ground which was voted the best in IPL has deteriorated and looked shabby. There was lot moisture in the pitch and the outfield too was in bad shape,” Sundaram said.

“With the met department forecasting more rain during the coming days it was not worth taking risk for such an important match, like the Irani Trophy. I will have to intimate BCCI that the match should be shifted to some alternative venue,” said Sundaram. (PTI)
