BOA elections

Calcutta: The Ajit Banerjee-led rival faction is all set to win the Bengal Olympic Association elections, to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Sunday, unopposed.

In a meeting called by Banerjee at a city hotel on Saturday, 56 voters out of 64 were present. And that was enough for the ruling party to decide that they do not have any chance whatsoever.

So, on Sunday, Kamalesh Chatterjee, who is the present secretary, and Debasish Banerjee, the treasurer, will withdraw from the fight on the floor. Subrata Dey and Rahul Mitra are also expected to follow suit. This means chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s younger brother Swapan Banerjee — Ajit is the elder one — will be one of the four joint-secretaries.
