ASEB hold FCI to 2-2 draw

Guwahati, Sept. 7: A brace by Food Corporation of India (FCI) SC midfielder Birdwm Basumatary today denied holders Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) SC a reprieve from the relegation scare in the ongoing Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy GSA Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here.

FCI held the power men to a 2-2 draw in today’s relegation group league match of the tournament.

After a barren first half that witnessed hardly any scoring opportunity for either side, the power men were one-up with a 52nd minute goal by substitute Sanjay Boro.

The lead was, however, short-lived, as Basumatary found the net with a header in the 59th minute.

FCI got another scoring opportunity in the 64th minute, but a header by Biswamittra Basumatary flew few inches above the crosspiece.

Syed Ansar struck ASEB’s second goal with a powerful volley from inside the penalty area in the 77th minute but the power men’s lead did not last long once again as Birdwm Basumatary struck again for the equaliser in the 87th minute.

ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma drew a deserving applause from the Nehru Stadium stands when he brilliantly fisted away a swinging freekick by the seasoned David March Goyari directed straight into the right corner of the net in the 90th minute of the match.
