New Delhi, Sept. 7: French car maker Renault today launched the C-segment sedan Scala at a price of Rs 6.99 lakh.
The new car will compete with the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen’s Vento and Skoda’s Rapid.
Based on the Nissan Sunny platform, the Scala is the fifth car from the French auto major in India after the Fluence, Koleos, Pulse and Duster.
“The Scala will consolidate what Renault has brought to India. It will enter a very competitive segment. With the launch of this car, we are completing the first cycle of introducing five products in India,” Renault India managing director Marc Nassif said.
The Scala, which is powered by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines, has five-speed manual transmission and an 80-85 per cent localisation level. The five seater is of 4,425mm length and 1,695mm width.
On overall sales, Nassif said, “We expect to sell 30,000-35,000 units this year. In 2013, we will try to sell one lakh units. The company will start exporting the Duster to the UK by the end of this year.” Renault will also look at the segment below the Pulse in the future.
