‘Callous’ jab at jail

Darbhanga, Sept. 7: The state commission for Extremely Backward Classes has taken a strong note of the “callous attitude” of the divisional jail authorities while probing the alleged suicide of an inmate last month.

A five-member team visited Darbhanga divisional jail yesterday to probe the alleged suicide of inmate Shiyaram Sahani.

The team, led by chairman Rabindra Kumar Tanti, met the inmates of ward number 5 and quizzed jail officials and Darbhanga civil surgeon Uday Kumar Chaudhary.

The members said they would make strong note of the unavailability of Sahani’s post-mortem report 20 days after his death in their report to the state home department.
