Olympians felicitated

Calcutta: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday felicitated London Olympics bronze medallist M.C. Mary Kom at Writers’ Buildings.

She was presented with a cheque of Rs 2 lakh.

Banerjee also felicitated four sportspersons — Joydeep Karmakar (shooting), Rahul Banerjee (archery), Soumyajit Ghosh and Ankita Das (table tennis) — from the state who were part of the Olympic squad in London, with Rs 50,000 each.

“Today I have met Mrs. M.C. Mary Com and congratulated her for her outstanding performance in London Olympics, 2012, winning a Bronze Medal in Boxing for India. She has brought fame and glory for our country,” the chief minister later posted on Facebook.

“I have also met few other participants of London Olympics. I felicitated all of them. Participating in any sports event like the Olympics is a matter of great success and honour. I am proud of all the sports persons who participated in this ‘Greatest Show on Earth’.”
