Manipur handball
Imphal, Sept. 6: Citizen Club started off on a strong note, registering two wins in the 32nd senior men and women’s state-level handball tournament played at Citizen Club ground in Imphal East.
In the men’s section, Citizen Club posted a 17-10 victory against Eastern Sporting Union with N. Ibungcha scoring six goals while M. Sanjesh scored five, N. Prince two and W. Michael, M. Thompson, Y. Romorio and H. Ajit one each for Citizen Club.
Indrasagar Singh scored four goals, M. Johnson scored three while Bhabananda, G. Bablu and Nilakanta fetched one goal each for Eastern Sporting Union.
In the senior women’s category, Citizen Club thrashed Chingarel YLK 22-6 with L. Anita Devi topscoring with five goals for Citizen. T. Ranjita scored four, Ch. Laxmi and A. Rebika netting three goals each. Chingarel YLK player S. Sanajaoba scored three goals while L. Sanjeta netted two goals and K. Nanda scored one goal.
Chingarel YLK received another beating from Manipur Police Sports Club in the men’s section, with the scorecard reading 11-3. Dinachandra, Kh. Mocha, H. Ingocha topscored with two goals for the police team while S. Sanajaoba scored two and Romio Singh chipped in with one goal for Chingarel.
The other matches in the men’s category saw 119/TA team defeating Eastern Sporting Union by 29-13 goals and Indira Memorial Club thrashing Public Club 22-12.
Fifa official visit
Fifa turf consultant Anthony Apparially will be in Imphal from September 8-10 for the final test of the football turf at the National Sports Academy complex near Lamlong bridge in Imphal East. The artificial football turf, initiated in 2009, was completed in the early part of this year.
Body-builders: The Manipur Amateur Body-Builders Association will hold a trial selection for body builders on September 10 to represent Manipur in the 25th Federation Cup Championship and Yuva Bharath Shree Championship to be held at Raipur in September.
