Whip on conductor

Krishnagar, Sept. 6: The Nadia district administration today instructed the private bus owners’ association to take a conductor off duty for three days for allegedly forcing four girls to get down from a bus on a lonely stretch at night.

Tehatta subdivisional officer Sudipta Bhattacharjee also ordered the owner of the bus to paste posters at various locations expressing regret over the September 3 incident.

Police said Siddhartha Banerjee had dragged the four Class XI students of Mahatma Gandhi Smriti Vidyapith out of the bus after they said they could pay only half of their Rs 24 fare from Tehatta to Palashipara. The girls lodged a complaint the next day, saying they were dropped near Habripara, 2km from their home.

“Bus employees should think twice before harassing any passenger,” the SDO said.
