Homemaker murdered

A 54-year-old homemaker, Rukmini Devi, was found dead with her throat slit in her Serampore flat on Wednesday afternoon.

Police suspect that the deceased knew her assailants and had hence allowed them in her bedroom, where the body was found in a nightgown.

“The woman did not sustain external injury, which suggests that she was attacked from behind. Her husband has not reported anything missing from their home,” said an officer of Serampore police station.

According to the police, the homemaker was alone in the second-floor flat in a four-storeyed building at Subhas Nagar in the afternoon. Her husband Rampukar Singh was at Dunlop English Medium High School at Sahagunge, where he is the headmaster. Their only son Vineet was in the city.

A help who walked into the flat through the open main door discovered the body. One of the cupboards in the bedroom was ransacked.

Rukmini was fighting a case with her brothers over their parental property in Jamshedpur.
