Calcutta: The first semi-final of the 25th All Airlines Gold Cup football tournament was a tale of two halves.
After a listless and barren first half, Emta Mohammedan Sporting found their scoring boots in the second session to outclass Bhawanipore Club 3-0. On the scorers’ list were David Sunday Gadimoh, who scored a brace, and Krishanu Banerjee.
Bhawanipore, playing with a single foreigner in Richard Gariseb, were never a match for Mohammedan Sporting. But they somehow managed to take the breather with a 0-0 scoreline.
Aloke Mukherjee’s boys went 1-0 up in the 60th minute when substitute Krishanu found the net with a diagonal right-footer after being set up by Alfred Jaryan.
Striker David then scored twice, in the 81st and 87th minute, to ensure a berth in the final, which will be played on Sunday. Credit for both the goals would go to David as he displayed clean finishing.
Mohun Bagan play George Telegraph in the second semi-final, on Wednesday.
