Police arrest FCI 2-2

Guwahati, Sept. 3: Food Corporation of India SC held Assam Police Blues to a 2-2 draw in today’s relegation group match of the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super League football tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

The policemen, who were at the bottom of the tally with only five points at the end of the first leg, came back strongly to dominate the proceedings with a 29th minute goal through striker Mofidul Islam, who headed in from inside the penalty box.

With the goal, last year’s runners-up led through to the second half.

However, the FCI men came back rejuvenated in the second session with Birdwm Basumatary striking with a right footer off a pass from the right flank by Kailash Gogoi to equalise in the 49th minute.

With parity restored, the proceedings were more confined to the midfield till Karuna Goyari fashioned the lead once again for the policemen in the 72nd minute.

But, the lead lasted only for 11 minutes as Biswamittra Basumatary restored parity once again for FCI by deflecting in the 83rd minute.

Holders Assam State Electricity Board will lock horns with Gauhati Town Club in tomorrow’s match of the relegation group.
