Imphal, Sept. 3: Thangmeiband PHLYO finished on top, collecting 19 points and are all set to lay their hands on the Imphal West M. Sangita Devi Memorial First Division Football League Tournament, 2012.
In their last league match, Thangmeiband PHLYO beat CRPF Group Centre Langjing by 3-2 goals to grab full points.
CRPF got off to a flying start with H. Jiban Singh, striking his team’s first goal in the third minute but Thangmeiband PHLYO drew parity in the 22nd minute through Kh. Premjit Singh to level 1-1 in the first half.
However, Thangmeiband PHLYO stepped up efforts in the later part of the game with M. Johny Singh getting the lead in the 45th minute and teammate Kh. Premjit Singh slamming home his team’s third goal in the 48th minute to post 3-1 goals.
However, the CRPF’s tireless efforts paid off with H. Jiban Singh scoring his second goal in the 62nd minute but it was not enough to save the day.
Thangmeiband PHLYO will be formally declared champions after completion of the two league matches tomorrow at Thangmeiband Athletic Union ground. Yaiskul Athletic Club are currently in second spot with 15 points with a match to play.
