Fieangpui drub Khulkhon

Nagaon, Sept. 3: Fieangpui Youth Club defeated Khulkhon Club 6-2 in the inaugural match of the 8th CEM Cup football tournament organised by Dima Hasao District Sports Association at the N.L. Daologupu sports complex in Haflong today.

Fieangpui led Khulkhon 2-1 till the end of the first half. Khulkhon striker Henminlun Vaiphei’s free kick brought the first goal of the match in the 14th minute. Vaiphei’s second attempt in the 23rd minute was saved by rival Sieangpui goalkeeper Sehmang Sitmhou.

Fieangpui left-winger Malsoma scored the team’s first goal and striker Zire scored the second goal.

Khulkhon midfielder Robert Ngamlai also contributed a goal.

Fiengpui right winger Michael scored the third and fifth goal while substitute player Ramchara scored the fourth and last goal for Fieangpui.

More than 8,000 soccer lovers gathered at the sports complex to enjoy the inaugural match.

Sports and excise minister Ajit Singh and Dima Hasao District Autonomous Council chief executive member Debojeet Thaosen participated in the inaugural ceremony as special guests.

The sports minister today said Dispur would release Rs 68 lakh for the construction of an indoor stadium within the N.L. Daulogupu sports complex. Seven outside teams and 16 home teams are participating in the biggest football event in the district.

United Council Youth Club will clash with Digrik Sporting Club in another first round match tomorrow.
