Death spurs fists on staff

Relatives of a patient thrashed employees of a private nursing home at Rajendra Nagar after he died on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 9am. Manoj Kumar Yadav, 40, a garage owner hospitalised at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and suffering from stomach pain was referred to Choudhary Imaging Spectrum Pvt. Ltd for ultra sound test.

“The doctors at NMCH advised us not to give him any water. But the employees at the clinic asked us to make him drink a glass of water. After drinking it, he collapsed on a stretcher and died, complaining of severe stomach pain,” said Ranjit Kumar, Manoj’s brother-in-law.

Six relatives, along with Manoj’s wife Punita Devi, 36, had accompanied him.

“We would not have lost our patience if the employees of the clinic did not misbehave with us,” said another relative Indrajit Kumar. “As soon as Manoj died, they told us to take away his body. We requested them to wait for a few minutes but they started to abuse us.”

An altercation ensued that soon turned into fisticuffs. The fighting stopped when police from Kadamkuan police station arrived. “We have lodged an FIR against an employee for misbehaving with the patient’s relatives. We are probing the matter,” said Kadamkuan police station house officer Sanjay Kumar.
