The BJP will organise a national rally at Gandhi Maidan on April 15 to fight growing inflation and the Congress’ failure to address the issue of corruption.
National- and state-level BJP leaders would attend the rally, announced the party’s Bihar chief, C.P. Thakur, at a news meet on Sunday.
On the possibility of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the rally, Thakur said: “Modi is a senior leader of the BJP but whether he will be called for the rally or not will be discussed by the central leaders. The state unit has no role in inviting central leaders, as it is a national rally.”
He added: “The rally, which will be held on April 15 next year, will address the issue of growing inflation and the UPA government’s failure to check corruption. The government has broken all records when it comes to scams. Every day, a scam is unearthed, the latest being the ‘coalgate’ scam.”
He added that the party would strengthen its agitation against the Union government on the issue of corruption through the rally, which is being seen as BJP’s preparation for the 2014 general elections.
Thakur demanded that all the coal block allocations should be cancelled and a fair probe should be ordered, as national wealth has been gobbled up by the Congress.
The state leaders also plan to raise the UPA government’s step-motherly attitude towards Bihar at the rally. Thakur said: “The Union government has a step- motherly attitude towards Bihar. The state is not getting requisite funds, necessary for its development, from the Union government.”
Apart from the rally, Thakur also said that the party’s membership drive to expand its base in the state would soon pick pace. “The party workers have been asked to raise the issue of health and education which affect the common man,” he said.
On Raj Thackeray’s threat to Biharis on Friday, he said: “Thackeray’s statement is wrong and is an attempt to break the federal structure of the country. The Union government and the Maharashtra government should take action against the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader for his comment.”
The party’s youth wing will also hold a “Yuva Hunkar Sammelan” at Dinkar roundabout on Monday to counter the Congress government over corruption.
