Meet nod with riders

Aug. 31: The Hooghly administration today gave “conditional’’ permission for the CPM’s September 9 Arambagh meeting that will be addressed by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, 10 days after it rejected the party’s proposal to hold the event.

District magistrate Sripriya Rengarajan said: “We reviewed the law and order situation in Arambagh over the past few days and found that there wouldn’t be any problem if the CPM meeting is held there. Accordingly, we decided today to grant permission for the former chief minister’s meeting.’’

Although the DM did not mention any conditions, Arambagh SDO Arindam Neogi said: “There are two conditions. First, the meeting will have to be an indoor event. Second, no microphones will be allowed outside the venue.”

A CPM leader said: “Our meeting was always supposed to be an indoor event. We also never planned to put up mikes outside the venue as this is a workers’ meet.’’
