Syria beat Nepal 2-0

New Delhi: Syria, who were runners-up in the last two editions of the Nehru Cup, avoided the ignominy of finishing last in the group when they defeated Nepal 2-0 in an inconsequential match, on Thursday.

Syria finished second from the bottom in the five-team group with four points. Nepal have only one point from their goalless draw against hosts India.

Goals from Hani Altayar and Ali Ghlioum sealed the issue for Syria who were never troubled by an insipid Nepal. Syria opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Hani Altayar latched on to a through pass from his defence to shot home.
