Watch out for the desi diva... and pardesi girl!

MAD ABOUT MADONNA: She looks like Madonna and dresses like Madonna. But she’s not the Material Girl. Meet Melissa Totten (in picture), Madonna impersonator, making a stop in Calcutta on Saturday as part of her ‘Madonna Forever Tour’ presented by Black Dog in association with t2. After touring six cities in India — Guwahati, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Goa and Gurgaon — this American girl living in the UK will be belting out Madonna hits like Hard Candy, Like A Virgin, Dance Floor, True Blue, Confessions On A Dance Floor, Bedtime Stories, Something to Remember and more for the Calcutta leg. And if it’s Madonna, there’s got to be dance too! Melissa will be accompanied by her troupe of seven dancers to swing things up at the Topaz banquet in Hotel Hindustan International on August 25, 7.30 pm.

USHA FOR A CAUSE: Usha Uthup will perform at Kala Mandir on Thursday in a concert for AHEAD, in association with t2. The event at the Shakespeare Sarani auditorium is being held to celebrate the 33rd foundation day of AHEAD Rehabilitation & Research Institute, a special school-cum-vocational training centre for autistic and differently-abled children. Starting at 6pm, Usha Uthup will belt out her popular songs from 7pm to 8.30pm. Governor M.K. Narayanan and wife Padmini will be the chief guests. The event will begin with an inaugural song performed by students and teachers of AHEAD. Dr Asesh Banerjee Chowdhury, himself wheelchair-bound since a polio attack in infancy, is the founder and president of AHEAD. Students will perform a group dance. Entry is by invitation only.
