Mirallas signs for Everton

London: Everton has completed the signing of Belgium international striker Kevin Mirallas on a four-year contract from Greek side Olympiakos. The 24-year-old Mirallas scored 20 times in 25 games for Olympiakos last season. Mirallas will not be able to make his debut for the Toffees against Manchester United Monday because he signed after the deadline of midday Friday, but will be unveiled to the Goodison Park crowd.

CFL matches

Calcutta: Kalighat MS thrashed Railway FC 3-0 in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division match on Sunday. In the other matches of the day, Peerless SC got past Army XI by a solitary goal while Aryan Club played out a 1-1 draw with George Telegraph.

Russia victory

Chennai: Top seeds Russia emerged winners after the ninth and final round of the TATA 14th IBCA Chess Olympiad for the Blind 2012 here on Sunday. Russia finished their engagements with 15 match points, clinching the team gold, while Ukraine and Spain claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Cash award

Imphal: Olympic bronze medal-winning boxer MC Mary Kom Sunday received a cheque of Rs 75 lakh for her outstanding performance in the London Games from Manipur chief minister Ibobi Singh, at a felicitation function, here.

Shivaji show

Calcutta: Shivaji Roy will meet Shoven Koley in the final of All Bengal BBS Table Tennis tournament. In the semis on Sunday, Shivaji defeated Souvik Chowdhury 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-3 while Koley get the better of Soham Bhattacharya 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6 & 11-7. Roy will also play the sub-junior boy’s singles final against Ayan Paul.

Tennis meet

Chennai: BR Nikshep of Karnataka and Vasudev Vijayaraman of Tamil Nadu got the better of their rivals to make the under-18 boys’ main draw of the singles event in the National Junior clay court tennis championship. Nikshep overcame Ihsan Husain 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 while Vijayaraman beat Rahul Singh of Delhi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Gangjee slips

Overland Park: Four birdies against three bogeys gave Rahil Gangjee a very modest one-under 70 in the third round of the Midwest Classic on Webcom Tour, formerly called Nationwide golf. Gangjee’s round saw him slip from 40th to 50th on the leaderboard.

Chess tourney

Calcutta: Nirmal Kumar Bose Memorial Rating Chess Tournament 2012, organised by Alekhine Chess Club, began at the Gorky Sadan, on Sunday. Top seed Khan Md. Raisudin of Uttar Pradesh and second seed Dyutimoy Mukherjee of Bengal won their games comfortably. Staff Reporter & Agencies
