Imphal, Aug. 19: North Imphal Sporting Association pulled off a 2-1 goal-victory against Kuki Sporting Club in the opening match of the 7th Manipur State League at Mapal Kangjeibung.
The first half failed to provide any sparks but North Imphal Sporting Association drew first blood in the 64th minute after S. Herojit Singh headed home using a corner kick from Khamsinthui Golmei. However, Kuki Sporting Club increased their tempo and got their breakthrough from a penalty kick.
North Imphal Sporting Association skipper T. Ajitkumar Singh in a bid to halt an attack to his goal handled a ball for a penalty and it was Themreisang A.S. who brought up the equaliser in the 77th minute. With the score 1-1, the North Imphal Sporting Association tried several attempts and luckily got the leading goal as Micheal Joute hit home anticipating a cross from the right in the 87th minute for the victory.
NISA player T. Ajitkumar, P. Romesh, Michael Joute and Kuki Sporting Club G. Ngulkhosiem, Thangminlan Gangte, Thomaskhup Vaiphei were awarded yellow cards in the match.
Altogether 11 teams are taking part in the league.
