Two government hospitals were rocked by protests and senior officials of one were assaulted after the death of two patients.
A 25-strong mob beat up the assistant superintendent, ward master and another official of MR Bangur Hospital after the death of Boral resident Shiva Chhetri, 32, who had been knocked down by a motorcycle.
Chhetri’s relatives and friends alleged they had been told of his death three hours after he had passed away. “We could not get in touch with the relatives as they had not given their phone numbers,” said a hospital official. Six people were arrested but later released on personal bonds.
At NRS medical college, the death of 26-year-old homemaker Sanchita Saha after she had given birth to a stillborn baby triggered allegations of medical negligence. The authorities denied the allegation.
The relatives held a demonstration at the hospital.
