New Delhi: Olympic medallists Vijay Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt were on Saturday jointly recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is preparing to stage a comeback after recovering from cancer, has been nominated for the Arjuna award.
Bengal rifle shooter Joydeep Karmakar, who finished fourth in the 50-metre prone event in London, has also been nominated for the Arjuna award along with two other shooters, Annuraj Singh and Onkar Singh.
Though a total of 25 sportspersons were awarded the Arjuna, no footballer was considered for the award in the platinum jubilee year of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Two members of the selection committee — Ravi Shastri and Bhaichung Bhutia — did not attend the meeting.
The names of Vijay Kumar and Dutt were suggested by the Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna committee, which is headed by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
While Vijay Kumar won a silver medal in 25-metre pistol event, Dutt bagged the bronze in 60kg freestyle wrestling.
All the other Indian medallists from the London Games — Sushil Kumar, Saina Nehwal and MC Mary Kom – have already received the Khel Ratna award.
The final list of award winners is expected to be announced in a couple of days by the sports ministry.
