Medical report submitted

Silchar, Aug. 17: The forensic department of Silchar Medical College and Hospital today forwarded the medical examination report of the 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly gangraped last Saturday.

Cachar superintendent of police Diganta Bora today said he was yet to see the report.

The prime accused in the case, Dibyendu Jyoti Kar, was “expelled” from the district Youth Congress today.

Kar, an advocate by profession, is the son of Congress block-level president Dilip Kar of Borkhola, nearly 15km from Silchar.

The court of the chief judicial magistrate in Cachar, Ajay Kumar Barua, remanded Kar in three-day custody yesterday after he was arrested on suspicion of being connected with the case.

The Silchar Bar Association, at its emergency meeting last night, had also expelled him from the membership of the association.

The bar association president, Ajoy Deblasker, said the involvement of a lawyer in such “an odious act” was simply “despicable”.

The Silchar branch of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All Cachar-Karimganj Students’ Association (ACKSA) and Assam College Teachers’ Association’s (ACTA) Cachar college unit also condemned the incident.
