Alcohol test
New Delhi, Aug. 17 (PTI): Fourteen pilots and 31 cabin crew members failed the alcohol test during the pre-flight medical examination between January and March this year, civil aviation minister Ajit Singh said.
Last year, four pilots and 21 cabin crew members failed the test, he said. According to civil aviation regulation, licences of first-time offenders were suspended for three months while those caught for the second time had their licences cancelled for five years.
J&K firing
Jammu (PTI): Pakistan opened unprovoked fire on Indian posts along the international border in Jammu on Friday. A BSF jawan injured in shelling on Thursday succumbed to his injuries. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire 11 times in the past 13 days.
Baby alert
Nashik (PTI): The alertness of a 10-year-old girl has saved a newborn baby from being buried alive in a Nashik town. Surakshya was playing outside her home on Thursday when she saw two persons burying the baby in a nearby pit and fleeing on a bike. She informed her father after hearing the wails of the baby. His father informed police and pulled out the baby from the pit.
Airport arrest
New Delhi (PTI): A man was arrested after 12 live cartridges were found in his handbag during security check at IGI airport on Friday. The catridges were recovered from Phuntso Dorjee when he kept his bag in the X-ray machine for checking, police said.
‘Rapist’ dad
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has sentenced a man to eight years in jail for repeatedly raping his 10-year-old daughter. Raju Dey, 31, allegedly raped his daughter two-three times when her mother was away from home. He continued raping her even after she told her mother about it.
Tilak portrait
Mumbai (PTI): A PIL has been filed in Bombay High Court to shift the portrait of former Justice Dinshaw Davar, who had sentenced Lokmanya Tilak for sedition, from the court room to a museum in its premises.
