New Delhi, Aug .17: The government is examining proposals to increase excise duty on diesel cars. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, S.S. Palanimanickam, minister of state for finance, said: “Representations have been received by the government for increasing excise duty on diesel cars. These are under examination.”

New Delhi, Aug. 17: Finance minister P. Chidambaram will meet the heads of PSU banks tomorrow to review the performance of the financial institutions and discuss issues related to non-performing assets and prevention of new accretion of bad loans.
