Highway blockade

Jorhat, Aug. 16: Members of 30 organisations and students of several schools and colleges today blocked National Highway 37 at Kamargaon Tinali for about an hour demanding a CBI inquiry into the death of Madhurjya Barakial, a fresher at Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, recently.

Suicide

Jorhat: Jadumoni Hazarika, a first year HS science student of Luit Valley Academy was found hanging at his Garmur residence here on Tuesday night.

In charge

Guwahati (PTI): Lt Gen. C.A. Krishnan on Thursday took over as general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C) of Tezpur-based Gajraj Corps from Lt Gen. Shakti Gurung, an official statement said. He had earlier served in Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir, Operation Rhino in Assam and Operation Hifazat in Manipur.

Forester hurt

Jorhat: Bhabha Hazarika, 55, a forest official of Kaziranga National Park, was seriously injured following an attack by a rhino at Borholla under Burapahar range on Wednesday night. He has been admitted to GMCH.

Drugs found

Karimganj (PTI): BSF and police personnel recovered 30gm of drugs from an abandoned house at Khasia Punjee village in Karimganj district on Thursday.

Syrup seized

Dhubri: Bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 6 lakh was seized by Gauripur police of Dhubri district while they were being transported to Agartala from Ranchi in Jahrkhand on Thursday. police source said 7,000 cough syrup bottles was concealed under the electric goods.
