Tabla player Abhijit Banerjee and sarod player Debojyoti Bose took part in the panel discussion

Sound of tabla: Percussionist Bickram Ghosh’s album Timeless Tabla was launched at The Stadel on Monday. Timeless Tabla is a two-CD pack featuring excerpts from Bickram’s live performances with the doyens of classical music, like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. A compilation of Bickram’s solo performances spanning a decade is also a part of the album. The launch was followed by a discussion on ‘Has the tabla player been given his due in the world of Indian classical music?’ Moderated by Bickram, the speakers included percussionist Tanmoy Bose and sarod player Tejendra Narayan Majumdar among others.

Bangla boys: Dalchhut, the popular rock band from Bangladesh, gave a stirring performance at ICCR (Ho Chi Minh Sarani) on Monday. With lead vocalist Bappa Mazumder steering the act, music truly seemed to have no barriers as Dalchhut belted out some of their eclectic originals like Baji, Gari chole na and Bioscope.
