Kidnapped girl rescued

A 17-year-old girl, who went missing from Garfa a week back, was rescued from New Delhi on Sunday. Police arrested Nikhil Neeraj, a 27-year-old Bihar resident, for allegedly abducting her. Cops traced the girl’s cellphone network to an east Delhi location and raided the place.

Train disrupt

The Gourbanga Express and several local trains were stranded on the Sealdah main line of the Eastern Railway after an overhead wire snapped at Baroda Bridge, near Naihati station in North 24-Parganas, around 9.50pm on Sunday. The wire could not be mended till late at night.

Minor abused

The stepfather of a 14-year-old girl was arrested in Barasat on Saturday for allegedly sexually torturing and abusing her. The girl has been sent to a juvenile home in Chinsurah.

Fliers held

Eight men were detained at the city airport on Sunday after they were found carrying 18,000 cellphone memory chips without necessary documents. The men had arrived from Bangkok, said an airport official.

Metro visit

A senior railway board official visited Calcutta on Saturday to assess the progress of the various Metro Railway projects in the city. Pradip Kumar, the adviser (project) of the railway board, inspected the Joka-BBD Bag route and the newly built car shed and interface station near Kavi Subhas station among other places.
