Selectors’ botch-up

Calcutta: Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Co. have botched-up on the India vice-captaincy for the World T20.

Less than five weeks after retaining Virat Kohli as vice-captain for the just-ended tour of Sri Lanka, they have dumped him and given the job to Gautam Gambhir.

According to a top source of The Telegraph, it’s a “bad mix-up.”

Apparently, the selectors were under the impression that Kohli had only been named the vice-captain for the five ODIs, not the one-off T20 International.

Well, Srikkanth and the rest forgot that even the Board’s media release on July 4 had listed Kohli as the vice-captain for the “5 ODIs and 1 T20.” The captain (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) and vice-captain for both formats had been the same.

Kohli must be a confused young man, while Gambhir, an IPL-winning captain, could be rather amused.

With Virender Sehwag being the unofficial Test vice-captain, Dhoni has a different deputy in every format!
