Guwahati, Aug. 10: Two quick goals in the first half helped FCI Sports Club get a headstart and eventually edge past Dynamo Club by 2-1 goals in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super Division football league at Nehru Stadium here today.
The FCI men lifted their game and, despite the slushy outfield, got their passes right. In the 16th minute, an alert Birdwm Basumatary made the most of a rebound off Dynamo goalkeeper Deepang Limbu to score the first goal. The slippery conditions made it hard to grip the ball, when striker Kailash Gogoi shot one firmly at him. Two minutes later, Pani Ram Mushahary headed in FCI’s second goal off a floater from the left.
Dynamo tried to counter in the dying minutes of the first half, as skipper Abraham Goodluck and Onyebi Nandos Ogbonna threatened to reduce the margin. In the second half, a free kick by Goodluck caught FCI custodian Gobinda Boro on the wrong foot as Ronald Singh tapped the ball in after it rebounded off the glovesman in the 63rd minute.
