A divider with grill fencing and plenty of greenery with lush lawns and luxuriant flower beds will soon give a refreshing look to the driveway outside Tatanagar railway station.
The engineering department of the railways has been given the task of undertaking beautification measures outside the A-category station.
Station manager of Tatanagar Rajendra Prasad said that besides modification of the parking lot, a divider with grill fencing would come up on Station Road for the first time.
“Station Road will look like any other road maintained by Tata Steel in its command areas with proper fencing and plantation. Several beautification work in phases will be carried out in the current fiscal, for which South Eastern Railway (SER) has provided requisite funds under passenger amenities,” said Prasad.
A senior official of the engineering department said Rs 60 lakh had been earmarked for work on the divider.
“The divider will make the road much safer. It is important as it witnesses huge traffic daily,” said the official, adding Rs 1 crore had been sanctioned in the first phase.
The funds will also be utilised for developing lawns and flower beds with landscaping in the driveway. The railways have roped in a local private consultant in this regard.
Another addition to passenger amenities will be a double-storeyed computerised reservation building in the driveway with a revamp of the existing structure.
“The existing single-storeyed building will be completely modified. The ground floor will house counters for general unreserved tickets while the first floor will be earmarked for computerised reservation tickets,” said an official of Chakradharpur railway division’s commercial department.
