Seven Cameroon athletes missing

Seven of Cameroon’s competitors have disappeared from the Games Village and may attempt to seek asylum in Great Britain, the chief of the African nation’s delegation said.

David Ojong, head of mission for Team Cameroon, said the seven all currently hold visas permitting them to remain legally in Britain until at least November. He said five boxers, a swimmer and a soccer player left the Village over the weekend and have not returned since weekend.

Alex Schwazer, Olympic 50-km race walk champion, was excluded from the Games for testing positive for EPO, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Tuesday. Although his exclusion was known on Monday, the substance he tested positive for had not been revealed until now.

Japan’s women footballers have bagged themselves an upgrade on their plane ride home from the Olympics, the team coach said, after a sexism row over their flight to Europe ahead of the Games.
