Sahaj beats Jacko

Athens: India’s Sahaj Grover outplayed Vladimir Jacko of Slovakia to maintain a clean slate in the World Junior Chess Championship, now underway here. With his second victory in as many games, Grover ensured that he remained in the leading group. The Delhi-based player now meets compatriot Debashish Das, who is on two points, in the next round.

Selection

New Delhi: The BCCI’s selection committee will meet in Mumbai on August 10 to pick the squad for the Test series against New Zealand, at home, starting August 23. “The All-India Senior Selection Committee will meet at 11:30 am on Friday, August 10, 2012, at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai, to pick the Indian team for the Test series against New Zealand in August-September 2012, and the subsequent India ‘A’ tour of New Zealand,” said a BCCI media release.

Panaji: Sporting Clube de Goa has signed up Cameroonian striker Bertrand Benik Tequwa Bong for the 2012-13 season. He will replace James Moga, the highest goal-scorer for the club, who has now moved to Pune FC. Bertrand has played in Cameroon, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Oman and in the high-profile Qatar league with Al Saham.

Los Angeles: US boxer Floyd Mayweather was released from a Las Vegas prison after serving two months of a three-month sentence for domestic violence, police said. Agencies
