Kohima, Aug. 4: The Nagaland government today launched the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram. It also said that the special accelerated road development project under way in the state had not been abandoned.
Speaking at the inaugural function here today, health and family welfare minister Kuzholuzo Nienu said the programme was aimed at making healthcare accessible to pregnant women and newborns in rural and urban areas to bring down maternal and infant mortality rates in the country.
In another announcement, the government said the road scheme had not been abandoned but temporarily suspended because of monsoon.
Rio meets royalty
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio visited Buckingham Palace on Tuesday and met the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, after being invited by over the latter. Rio was in London to witness the Olympics.
Prince Andrew and Rio discussed matters relating to improved bilateral ties between the UK and India, especially Nagaland.
