Pawar stick over Pune blasts

Pawar

Mumbai, Aug. 4: NCP chief Sharad Pawar today called for “ruthless” decisions to strengthen the intelligence apparatus as he pulled up Maharashtra home minister R.R. Patil over Wednesday’s serial blasts in Pune and earlier attacks in the state.

The Union minister said he had a detailed discussion with Patil about the August 1 explosions and had asked the state leader to focus on intelligence gathering to prevent such strikes.

“If we have to be result oriented, then ruthless decisions need to be taken. The officers handling intelligence and law and order should be assertive and effective,” Pawar said.

Asked if he was blaming the Union home ministry or the state home ministry, Pawar said: “In 2010, there was the blast at German Bakery, and now these blasts. Why is it happening in Pune, in that area.”

UPA meeting

The first UPA co-ordination committee meeting after the recent Congress-NCP stand-off is likely to be held on August 7 or 8, PTI reported.

Congress, being the single largest party, will get substantial representation, but allies should also have a say in parliamentary committees and other appointments, Pawar said.
