Rape arrest

Burdwan, Aug. 4: A migrant labourer was arrested today on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl in Burdwan.

Samir Sardar, 30, a resident of Sahapur village, half a kilometre from the spot where the girl was allegedly raped on her way to school, was remanded in 14 days’ jail custody.

Doctor arrest

Calcutta: A doctor in Salt Lake was arrested on Saturday night on the charge of assaulting his wife. Sanjay Das, a radiologist attached to a private hospital in Salt Lake, was picked up from his BK block home. Das has been booked under Section 498 of the IPC, police said.

Urine probe

Bolpur: Jadavpur University professor Piyali Palit will head an enquiry committee Visva-Bharati has formed to probe the allegation that a former Patha Bhavan student was forced to lick her own urine by a hostel warden.
