NIT gets new director

Professor Rambabu Kodali — former head of the mechanical department of BITS-Pilani — took charge as the new director of NIT in Adityapur on Friday.

The appointment is the first instance of a professor from a private college being appointed as the director of NIT.

Kodali, whose name had been doing the rounds for quite sometime, took over the reigns from Rajneesh Srivastava at his chamber in the morning. Srivastava, the director of NIT-Hamirpur, was holding additional charge of the Adityapur cradle.

Addressing a gathering of faculty members, Kodali said he had heard a lot about NIT and felt privileged to have been given an opportunity to head the institution.

The new director said the Union HRD ministry had entrusted him with the job and he would do everything in his capacity to improve the quality of education.

“Every institution has its own share of problems, which needs to be addressed. We will take care of issues together and take this institution to new heights,” Kodali said after being greeted by a warm round of applause.

Later, he said he did not have any particular plan in mind and would first need to understand the functioning of the institute. “This is my first day. I will review facilities and interact with students and teachers before drawing up a plan,” he said.

The teachers of the technical institute too sounded excited about Kodali’s appointment and hoped that college touched new heights under his leadership.

“We will extend our full co-operation to the new director in making the institute gain recognition at the national and international level,” said a teacher.
