When it comes to Durga Puja, it is never too early to start shopping in Jamshedpur.
The goddess may not be slaying the demon till October, but steel city residents have started decking up for the occasion, courtesy a boutique exhibition to pamper them with choice.
Shopaholics, mostly women, are splurging on drapes and dress materials, with the colourful Baha saris, available in twin fabrics, being the top draw.
Kolkata Exclusive Boutique, the initiative of eight women who put up stalls to kick off an exhibition-cum-sale of designer saris at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Bhavan on Wednesday, has done brisk business so far.
The organisers of the exhibition, which will end on Sunday, believe sales figures will swell over the weekend because “people in Jamshedpur are fashion conscious”.
“People here carefully choose what they wear. For designers like us, it is always a pleasure dealing with such customers who understand our work,” said Sushrita Sinha, organiser of the event.
She added that their collection boasted the latest trend in saris and kurtas that were available in a wide range of fabrics.
Others, like Chandana Saha of Dum Dum-based Swasti Boutique, claimed that their collection were trendy.
“We have got a different range of saris, including fusions of matka silk and pure silk. The matka silk is handbrushed. Apart from this, we also have malmal, crepe, georgette and tussar saris,” Chandana said.
